Introducing Seoul’s New Unlimited Short-Term Travel Pass

Additional tips for colleagues attending the IVR Korea Conference:

Previously, I introduced rechargeable transportation cards, but starting from July 1st this year, a new short-term pass has been introduced for the ‘Climate Card’ (기후동행카드). These passes are available for 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 days and offer unlimited travel starting from the day of charge. However, there are some restrictions compared to regular rechargeable transportation cards, so please choose based on your usage pattern.

  • The card is only valid in Seoul, and cannot be used if you travel outside to the Gyeonggi-do region.
  • It is essential to first purchase a physical ‘Climate Card’ (marked with the symbol ‘’) for 3,000 won before charging it.
    • If you wish to use a credit card for purchase, you must buy the card at convenience stores located near major subway stations. (Note that this physical card can only be purchased with cash in Korean won at the 'Information(고객안전실)' inside subway stations.)
    • However, the card cannot be charged and recharged at convenience stores; it must be recharged at charging machine inside subway stations.
    • [Update] When charging or recharging, a credit or debit card issued in South Korea or Korean Won is required, so ultimately, Korean Won Currency will be needed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Also, please be aware that there are no refunds for unused balances.
